More than 100,000 reports have been issued over tax scams in the past 12 months alone
Millions of people have been warned by HM Revenue and Customs that they could be targets of a new fraud scheme.
It comes after 12 million people are expected to submit a Self Assessment tax return for the 2022/23 tax year before the January 31, 2024 deadline hits. Scammers reportedly take a wide range of approaches to trick customers, including offering a rebate, telling customers they need to provide tax details, and even threatening arrest for tax evasion.
