Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested a 36-year-old man suspected of being a hitman in connection with the murder of Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa. The arrest comes a year after Mbanjwa's fiancé, Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi, was also arrested for her murder.

Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, said the man will be charged for murder and is expected to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Friday.Mhlongo said Mbanjwa’s fiancé, Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi, was also arrested for her murder in November last year. Mhlongo said Mngqithi made a brief appearance in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court last year and was remanded in custody. He will be back in court on 22 January 2025.
The serious organised crime investigation by the Hawks in East London, in collaboration with the police in East London and the Mdantsane Flying Squad, arrested the suspect on Tuesday.
