FOR THE LEDGER Bryant Macfarlane, the curator of the Army Aviation Museum on Fort Novosel, is something of an expert in military history, specifically aviation history. He is currently pursuing a Ph. From patrolling the skies over modern battlefields while piloting unmanned aerial vehicles from remote locations to dominating the modern battlefield in the middle of the day or during the dark of night.

During World War II, the Army Air Corps was formed. At the Air Corps’ height, it had more than 2.4 million people and 80,000 aircraft and flew more than 2.3 million missions during the War. Following WW II, the newly formed Air Force took over the training for Army pilots, and thus began a decades-long tug of war for control of Army Aviation.

Bryant also spoke about the new Training and Support Facility. The one located at Fort Novosel is one of four in the country. It is not considered a museum and is therefore not open to the public. However, on April 12, the facility will hold an open house from 3 until 5 p.m. Later on July 20, the public will have another opportunity to visit the facility from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
