According to a recent press release from the Breede Valley municipality, a historical building from 1890 in Worcester burned down on Thursday night.
The municipality’s call centre received a call regarding the fire at a storage facility at Baring Street, Worcester at around 7:15pm, and a team of firefighters was soon dispatched, as reported by theResidents of two nearby apartment buildings were evacuated and provided temporary housing in a hotel, to prevent any harm or danger that could have befallen them from the fire.
The affected building will soon be thoroughly inspected for safety reasons before the tenants can return to their original residences, as the walls of the building can potentially collapse caused by the fire damage. The building, formerly used as a shed when it was constructed, was located in the middle of the block between Church Street, Stockenstrom Street, Baring Street and Tulbagh Street, according to Julian Kritzinger, Breede Valley Mayco member for Local economic development and tourism.
