In a blow for 'Top Gun' fans, the release date for the movie’s highly anticipated sequel has now been set back to Christmas time.

“I know many of you have waited 34 years. Unfortunately, it will be a little longer.The film, a sequel to 1986’s smash hit Top Gun, sees Cruise reprising his role as gung ho jet pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. It also stars Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Val Kilmer, who returns as Iceman.

Miles Teller plays Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late friend, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. He must teach the young pilot to follow in his father’s footsteps.
