Forecasters say wind gusts along the Jersey Shore could get strong enough to knock down trees and power lines, and offshore waters will be dangerous for boaters.
has issued several alerts for parts of the Jersey Shore, including a high wind watch for coastal sections of Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean counties.says northeasterly winds could be blowing steadily from 25 mph to 40 mph on Saturday, and some gusts could get as high as 55 to 60 mph — which are strong enough to knock down trees and power lines.
Forecasters say a strong coastal storm this weekend will bring minor to moderate coastal flooding along the Jersey Shore. In addition to heavy rain, strong winds are expected to be blowing from the northeast.The weather service has also issued a storm watch for boats, cruise ships and other marine vessels, saying easterly winds of 25 to 35 knots are expected over the coastal waters off the Jersey Shore, with gusts up to 50 knots and seas as high as 9 to 14 feet possible.
