Three suspects were apprehended by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) following a high-speed car chase and shootout. The suspects were wanted in connection with a robbery and led police on a dangerous pursuit through Johannesburg.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department ( JMPD ) apprehended three suspects following a high-speed car chase and shootout in Johannesburg . JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla stated that officers were conducting crime prevention patrols when they observed a blue Hyundai Accent traveling at excessive speed. Upon attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the driver disregarded the officers' signals and sped away, jeopardizing the safety of other motorists.

A pursuit commenced, during which the suspects opened fire on the pursuing officers. The suspects continued their reckless driving, colliding with a maroon Renault Kwid at the intersection of Kliprivier Drive and Turf Club Road. Despite this collision, the suspects remained determined to evade arrest. Fihla explained that the high-speed chase finally concluded at the corner of Garden Road and Turf Club Road, where the suspects were apprehended. A subsequent investigation revealed that the suspects were wanted in connection with a robbery in the Ridgeway area, where they allegedly stole a cellphone from a schoolchild.All three suspects were taken into custody at Booysens Saps and are scheduled to appear in court shortly. The JMPD praised the bravery and professionalism of the TRU officers involved in this successful operation. This incident highlights the JMPD's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Johannesburg residents. Meanwhile, police are actively pursuing two suspects accused of fatally shooting a 27-year-old man outside the Lenasia Magistrate's Court. Mouwers, from Eldorado Park, was slated to provide testimony alongside another witness in a murder case from 2021 in the suburb. The Justice Department has strongly condemned the heinous and deplorable act committed against a witness who sought to assist the court in its pursuit of justice
