BEIJING – A trendy new job in China of being a home companion for children offers applicants high salaries of up to 80,000 yuan a month, attracting many highly educated young people to apply.
A manager at an education consultancy in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, told CNR News that over 6,000 people submitted their resumes in a year after the company set up the child companion business. “I have only a very general knowledge of the profession, which is different from a regular babysitter. I think most of the parents hiring a child companion want them to teach English, maths or art-related courses during the companionship,” she added.
