The actions of a quick-thinking TTC employee are being hailed as “heroic” after a decision they made most likely saved the lives of four people, says the transit agency.
Around 6 p.m. Thursday, an oncoming northbound GO train just east of Agincourt GO Station struck an empty vehicle stuck on the tracks in Scarborough. Just moments before the collision, a TTC bus operator travelling on the Finch East route saw the stuck vehicle and helped remove the occupants from inside.The driver had been travelling in the area of, police said, when they turned onto the slippery railway tracks and the vehicle became stuck.
Finch Avenue was closed between Milliken Boulevard and Midland Avenue for a couple of hours before they were reopened around 9 p.m. Toronto police said in a tweet.“A commendation letter could go in his file as early as today. There's a more formal sort of rewards and recognition process that we do on a semi-annual basis, that’s every six months. There may be some commendation there as well,” Stuart Green, spokesperson for the transit agency, told the Star.
