'Heroic' send-off for alleged Eastern Cape CIT heist robbers highlights the problem, experts warn
A well-known cash heist robber Masamba Nsengele, was killed in a stand-off between his gang and private security personnel in Tsolo in the Eastern Cape. Masamba Nsengele died in a hail of bullets – and took his last breath lying bloodied in a patch of veld near Tsolo in the Eastern Cape. At his side was a police-issued R5 rifle and a weathered pistol.
Nsengele was an alleged notorious cash-in-transit robber, a modern-day highwayman linked to a spate of attacks and bombings of armoured money trucks. He died on the wrong side of the law. However, at his funeral, he was revered as a hero, as mourners held guns aloft and sprayed bullets into the sky. His eulogy – delivered by a man whom impeccable police sources told News24 was a member of a heist gang – called on young men who wanted wealth and fame to follow in his footsteps.
