Toronto mayoral candidates Olivia Chow, Brad Bradford and Ana Bailao address what voters are most talking about.
We apologize, but this video has failed to load.— TTC: Chow vows to reverse recent service cuts and significantly improve service to make sure it is fast and reliable. According to her plan, cell service would be expanded to all subway lines and workers would be redeployed to TTC stations, adding eyes and ears of the system.Councillor Brad Bradford, who brought along his daughter, Briar, was among the first candidates to sign up at City Hall for Toronto‘s mayoral race on April 3, 2023.
— Bike lanes: While there is much that can be done to make bike lanes work better for everyone, Bradford says, it’s unrealistic to imagine a Toronto without any. As mayor, he promises to create infrastructure that unclogs gridlock and makes it safe for everyone to get around. He adds that as Canada’s largest city, Toronto needs to include cycling infrastructure where it makes sense, so everyone can move about the city safely.
— Crime and public safety: A supporter of the police chief’s budget for the last five years — including a $48-million increase for the force this year — Bradford promises to work with Toronto Police to establish dedicated units to keep tabs on alleged criminals who are out on bail. — Safe injection sites: Bailao announced a plan which includes mobile mental health clinics. She says the “overdose crisis is a health-care and mental health-care crisis. We need to listen to the best advice of public health professionals and make sure that other governments — including the provincial government, which is responsible for health care — are at the table with us.”
