National Weather Service predicts that storms 'will increase in coverage throughout the day on Monday.'
. There is a 50 percent to 60 percent chance of rain today and a 40 percent to 50 percent chance Tuesday.
"There are some storms developing to the south of San Antonio already moving into Atascosa County," said Keith White, lead meteorologist with the NWS in New Braunfels."Storms will increase in coverage throughout the day on Monday. "With very weak winds at the mid-to-upper levels of the atmosphere being pretty slow-moving, those storms will move slowly. Not everyone will see rain, but those who do will see locally heavy rates, anywhere from 1 to 3 inches."'Bent and twisted and moved all over': How the San Antonio River helped shape the city layout
A weak front that will push through Tuesday will serve as a better focal point for storm development, White said. Although there will be lower storm coverage Tuesday, there is still a chance of locally heavy rainfall. Today is expected to see a higher coverage area for rainfall than Tuesday. With May seeing the most precipitation on average of any month around San Antonio, the heavy rains aren't surprising, White noted. Still, there's been a good bit more precipitation this year than there was last year.
