Following the rape accusation in 1949, an angry mob shot and killed Thomas before he could be arrested. Charles Greenlee, Shepherd and Irvin were all put to trial and convicted. The first of the family members to speak was Carol Greenlee, who broke down in the court when the judge announced her father's name would be cleared.
