There has to be some other meaningful contribution from somewhere else in the lineup.
That is the easy takeaway from a Game 3 that saw the Sixers take control of this series with an 118-95 win and a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference best-of-seven semi-final.
Leonard had another huge scoring game, but without much help beyond Siakam offensively, it wasn’t enough to overcome a Sixers lineup that is getting contributions from all corners of the roster. In addition to providing the kind of rim protection only a guy of Embiid’s size and dexterity can — he had five blocks in the game — he was back to the role of Philly’s primary offensive option as well, leading the Sixers with 33 points.
The way Philly put the Raptors away in the fourth felt a lot like those games in Cleveland, when it started out on a 30-5 run and James was basically mocking Raptors defenders as they attempted to slow the run down. It riled up the fans — who are understandably very protective of their often-brittle superstar — but not Embiid. The Sixers called off the Embiid-on-Siakam matchup after they had so much success with that in the first half of Game 2.
Gasol never really got going finishing seven points on 2-of-6 shooting and an uncharacteristic minus-26.
