The B.C. River Forecast Centre says the hot weather is \u0027significantly\u0027 melting high elevation snow and glaciers in the Sea to Sky region.
A provincewide heat wave is in effect. Pemberton reached 37.1 C on Monday and 39.1 C on Tuesday, the centre said in an alert Wednesday.
The Lillooet River near the Pemberton hydrometric station rose overnight to 578 m3/s as of 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday — an increase of about 75 m3/s from the previous day’s melt-related peak, according to the centre. The river has reached above a two-year return period flow at Pemberton. Meantime, other rivers and creeks in the Sea to Sky region with high-elevation snow and glacier contribution are experiencing significant rises due to the heat wave.
