Down 10 with four minutes left, the Rockets got all the stops they could need to steal the win, holding the Heat scoreless for the final five minutes.

The Rockets have the second-ranked defense in clutch situations in the NBA. But until they got to that point, the shorthanded Heat scored too easily. That got Tyler Herro going, as he followed his career high 35 points in Oklahoma City on Wednesday with 41, making 10 of 15 3s, against the Rockets on Thursday. Herro, 22, became the youngest player in NBA history with at least 40 points, five rebounds, and 10-pointers in a game.

At the start of the fourth quarter, after the Rockets regained their lead with a climb back from down 14, he was ready to fire away with nearly every touch. Duncan Robinson turned a steal to a pass to Herro and Herro’s ninth 3-pointer, his career high. Just 21 seconds later, Herro pulled up to nail his 10th.

But the Rockets did not take anything away in the second quarter when the Heat made 14 of 25 shots, scoring 37 points. That led to a rare double foul, and an almost as rare, technical foul on Stephen Silas, his second of the season.
