The senior detective told reporters the body had been in the area"for some time" therefore posed “some difficulties for us in terms of identification and also recovery.”
Officers have contacted Mr Lyons's family and they will provide DNA to assist with the identification process, Mr O’Meagher said.“They're assisting us with our inquiries and we're providing them with the support that they need during this difficult time," Mr O’Meagher said. Police have issued numerous calls to the Canberra community for any information about Mr Lyons' whereabouts as part of their investigation over the last months.
