The Registered Nurses Union doesn’t believe there will be a way for nursing students affected by the MUN strike to complete their clinical trials until the MUNFA strike is over.who say they cannot complete their clinicals until a resolution is found, which may result in them not graduating on time.
Recently, Premier Andrew Furey indicated that government is monitoring the situation closely, and that they are looking at all instruments available that would allow nurses to have access to their education while recognizing that collective bargaining is underway. RNU President Yvette Coffey doesn’t believe there’s a way to do that without undermining the bargaining process.
She says there’s no way to do it without students crossing their instructors’ picket lines, which wouldn’t be fair. The union is asking Memorial University to get back to the table with MUNFA and end the strike. Coffey says the health care system cannot wait for 70 nursing students who could be delayed in graduating and starting jobs.
