Evacuation orders have been lifted and roads have been reopened after a hazmat scare in west Columbus.

A hazmat team has been called after a trailer was smoking in west Columbus on Thursday morning.

Crews worked to put out a fire that burned a semi-truck carrying lithium-ion batteries in the parking lot of Ward Trucking, along McKinley Avenue and near Grandview Avenue. Columbus Fire tells us the truck has been parked in the back of the lot and away from everything else around it, which they say averted a disaster. The truck also had a placard warning about a hazardous load.is that no one in the community knew what was going on at this facility -- families panicked when they were rushed out of their homes. What it boiled down to for the NAACP is communication.

The NAACP says this most recent incident is yet another example of the community being left in the dark when it comes to potential dangers in their neighborhoods. Community wasn't aware of anything that was going on and then all the sudden they have fire trucks and all things telling them to evacuate and they have no idea why I'd be willing to bet the community still doesn't know why they were evacuated so its a major issue and communication channels need to be opened up," shared Adam Porter, Environmental Climate Justice Chair of the NAACP.
