Basic Education has requested the Hawks to investigate 2024 matric results leak allegations.

This follows public outrage at reports that an independent online platform has been selling the results for R100 before Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube’s official release this evening.Addressing the media at a breakfast for the top achievers in Johannesburg, Gwarube says that her department suspects the leak to have happened in the end processes of the release of the results.
Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube says the leak will not affect the credibility of the 2024 matric results. She suggests that the leak might have happened at the tail end of the results.The Minister says they take this very seriously that is why the Hawks have been enlisted to investigate the matter.
“We are investigating at DBE whether or not our processes have been subject to a breach and we will deal with it. If we have been the victim of a cyber-crime then we are dealing with it through state security and the Hawks.” Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube says the department will launch an investigation following reports of a matric results leak. “I am not able to say if these results have been definitively leaked, as we have enlisted the services of the hawks and the state security.”
