New research has found that having a lower body mass index is consistently linked with having a lower risk of type 2 diabetes risk, even among those with genetic risk factors for the condition. The researchers used the data to look at the association between BMI, a family history of diabetes and genetic risk factors affecting the risk of type 2 diabetes., showed that a higher risk of diabetes was associated with a higher BMI, a family history of type 2 disease and genetic risk factors.
