From ghost planes to haunted halls, the Peak District is home to its fair share of haunted locations
Given that it’s a landscape where you’ll find medieval halls, plague villages and old pubs, it’s no surprise that the Peak District is home to a haunted location or two. Well, make that several.
Peveril Castle Built in 1176, the ruins of Peveril Castle are perched on a hill overlooking Castleton, even without any ghost tales they would still be rather creepy. The castle is reportedly haunted by a white knight who stands by the rampart. Ladybower Reservoir On several occasions ghost planes have been spotted in the skies above the Peak District. Witness have even seen a plane identified as a Lancaster Bomber fly near Ladybower Reservoir, which is where the Dambust runs were practised. A Douglas Dakota plane has also been spotted on numerous occasions throughout Derbyshire.
