The Blitzboks will face Fiji in the final of the Commonwealth Games after a come-from-behind win over Australia in Birmingham on Sunday.
Angelo Davids scored his second hat-trick of the competition to help the South Africans trump the Australians for a spot in the gold medal match, scheduled to kick off at 10pm.Australia drew first blood after two early mistakes by the Blitzboks for a 5-0 lead before Davids scored his eighth try of the tournament with two minutes to go in the first half.
Ronald Brown added the extras but a second try from the Australians under the uprights put them back in front, until Davids again replied to level matters 12-12 at the break. The Aussies started the second half with six men after copping a yellow card just before the interval, and the South Africans seized the advantage when Selvyn Davids charged down a kick in midfield to score and go 19-12 ahead.
Angelo Davids then completed his hat-trick to make it 24-12 and clinch the win. The Blitzboks, current World Rugby Sevens Series leaders, will now look to repeat the gold medal-winning feat of Team SA in Glasgow in 2014 when they come up against reigning Olympic champions, Fiji.
