SA’s citrus growers emerged from the annus horribilis that was 2022, the tides began to turn, the elevated risk of more stringent cold treatment regulations implemented by the EU, has brought some new challenges for the sector in 2023 NtandoThukwana

As South Africa’s citrus growers emerged from the annus horribilis that was 2022, and the tides began to turn, the elevated risk of more stringent cold treatment regulations implemented by the European Union , has brought some new challenges for the sector in 2023.

“With the African Growth and Opportunity Act , set to expire in 2025, strained relations between the two countries could have an effect on preferential market access of products such as citrus from South Africa when a new round of Agoa is negotiated,” said the report.
