Prince Harry's private jet "was still in the air" when Buckingham Palace announced the Queen had died.

Sadly, they did not make it in time with the palace publicly announcing the monarch's death at 6.30pm yesterday, September 8. Flight data shows Prince Harry was also still in the air and on his way to Balmoral Castle when the nation was given the shock news.The 37-year-old arrived at 7.52pm after touching down in Scotland at around 7pm.

The new monarch King Charles III also shared a statement following the announcement of his mother's death. It said: "The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. "During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."
