Prince Harry has claimed that Prince William and Kate Middleton encouraged him to don a Nazi costume at a 2005 party.
In an extract of his upcoming memoir Spare, obtained by Page Six, he's said to claim that the now Prince and Princess of Wales "howled with laughter" at the costume. In his 2020 book Battle Of Brothers: William, Harry And The Inside Story Of A Family In Turmoil, royal historian Robert Lacey suggested that the rift between the two brothers started in 2005 after Harry felt he had become the monarchy's "institutional scapegoat" in the wake of this event.
According to an extract obtained by The Guardian, William accused Harry of acting like the heir and did not understand why his younger brother was not content with being the spare to the throne.
