That’s why I’m here.” “So for about a year, my husband Scott was not on a cholesterol drug, and on Christmas Eve he did he passed away from a cardiopulmonary failure,” Kelly said.UPMC cardiologist Dr. Shaji Menon said, “It’s a condition that is inherited from either your parents. It can happen for the first time in you, but you can pass that on to the next generation."After their 14-year-old son started an acne medication that required blood work, doctors discovered he too had high cholesterol levels.
“That is the scary part of the syndrome,” Dr. Menon said. “You could be born with it, and this is like lurking in the background without any symptoms. The first presentation may be the heart attack happening in your 20 or 30’s you might think you're completely healthy, and you could have a heart attack as a first event.
