Politico reported that Harris was inside the DNC headquarters when a pipe bomb was discovered outside.
She later returned to the Capitol that night for the counting of the Electoral College votes, but her exact whereabouts for the middle portion of the day were finally revealed Thursday, whenthat Harris departed the Capitol complex for the Democratic National Committee headquarters — and was inside when a pipe bomb was discovered outside the building.
According to Politico, the bomb — which officials say was placed outside the building the night before by the same person who placed an additional bomb outside the Republican National Committee headquarters — was discovered at 1:07 p.m. ET, and Capitol Police and the Secret Service reportedly evacuated Harris from the premises at approximately 1:14 p.m. The bomb threat was neutralized at 4:36 p.m.
The FBI said both bombs were"viable" and"could have been detonated, resulting in serious injury or death." Earlier on Thursday, Harris gave a speech reflecting on the events of a year prior, stating that she was in the Capitol for an intelligence briefing before the riots. She compared what happened to the Pearl Harbor and Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
