Jurors heard opening statements Tuesday for a man accused of gunning down a man in a Hammond drive-by shooting.
Kian Moore, 23, is charged with murder in the Oct. 22, 2019 shooting death of Quinten Kendrick-Taylor, 23, of Hammond. Moore’s two co-defendants — Christian Buchanan-Purdiman, the driver, and passenger Leila Shojaee — signed pleas in the case. Authorities alleged Moore shot him dead from the back seat just as Kendrick-Taylor stepped outside his house.
” Her sentencing is scheduled Nov. 3. King said Shojaee said she didn’t know there was a gun in the car, but heard gunshots from the backseat. He asserted Moore was “so drunk” after hours in the car he “was falling down.” The next day, Moore vomited when Buchanan-Purdiman woke him up. The three bullet casings recovered from the crime scene were from Kendrick-Taylor’s gun, King said. The murder weapon was likely a revolver, which doesn’t leave casings.
