Andrew Harris ran for a touchdown and threw for a score as fifth-seeded Haddon Heights held off fourth-seeded Oakcrest, 14-12, in the first round of the South Jersey, Group 2 tournament in Mays Landing.Harris’ 7-yard TD run and his ensuing extra point gave Haddon Heights the lead for good at 7-6 with 2:34 left in the third quarter. The senior added to the lead when he connected with Damier Outterbridge-Ali down the left sideline for a 32-yard TD pass with 8:35 left in the fourth quarter.
Andrew Estrada’s 3-yard run with 3:18 remaining cut the deficit to two for Oakcrest , but the pass attempt on the two-point conversion try fell incomplete. Haddon Heights was able to successfully run out the clock without allowing Oakcrest to see the ball again. Haddon Heights will take a four-game winning streak into the semifinals next week when they travel to top-seeded Rumson-Fair Haven.
