Manchester City star Erling Haaland explains what could have seen him play for England at the World Cup

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has explained how he could have represented England rather than Norway.

Haaland is a key player for Norway, scoring 21 goals in 23 games for his national side since making his debut in 2019.Advertisement The 22-year-old, though, was born in Leeds when his father, Alfie, was playing for the Premier League side but moved to Bryne in 2004.“I lived in Norway for such a long time so then it was natural for me to choose Norway, you know?“You never how it would be, maybe if my father played longer in England or whatever, maybe I would be English I don’t know, but I’m Norwegian and I’m proud of it.”

Alf-Inge spent 20 years playing in England at Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Man City, but moved back home in 2004 where Erling developed into one of the world’s best strikers. Haaland may well have been involved at the World Cup this year should he have played for England, but he will remain at home for the tournament as Norway failed to qualify.
