Guyana opposition leader accuses government of fraud in presidential vote
GEORGETOWN - Guyana opposition leader Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday accused the nation’s elections commission of fraud in tallying the results of Monday’s presidential vote, saying the group inflated the vote count to favor the incumbent, President David Granger.
Jagdeo said the Guyana Elections Commission altered the vote count in a populous area known as Region Four. Jagdeo said the results for that region were inconsistent with the statements of a poll released at individual voting centers there.Representatives of the electoral commission did not respond to requests for comment. Reuters was unable to obtain comment from Granger’s office.
