So, if Smith had said two weeks ago what she said Monday about an independent Crown prosecution service being “integral to the preservation of public confidence in the justice system,” this controversy would have ended before it began. It should be noted, also, that the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service claims it “fully co-operated” with the weekend investigation and has every confidence none of its prosecutors engaged in discussions with the UCP government over ongoing cases.Article content
