Authorities in Cape Town, South Africa, uncover a disturbing dogfighting operation after seizing five dogs, with two exhibiting signs of recent ear cropping. The raid revealed a makeshift pit smeared with blood, along with equipment associated with dogfighting. The SPCA is collecting DNA evidence to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Members of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA and the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement , Animal Control Unit conducted a raid on a property on Wednesday. During the operation, five dogs were seized, with two of them discovered to have recently cropped ears, a criminal offense under the Animals Protection Act. The inspection team uncovered a horrifying scene, including a blood-soaked carpet and walls of a makeshift dogfighting pit stained with blood.
Belinda Abraham, from the organization, stated, 'It really was quite a gruesome scene. Two dogs had clear and unmistakable fighting scar patterns.'In addition to the dogs, equipment associated with dogfighting, such as a treadmill, break sticks, and medication, was also confiscated. The pit itself was dismantled for forensic testing. The SPCA is shouldering the cost of urgent DNA testing to be conducted at a private laboratory. This testing is crucial for holding those responsible accountable. Abraham emphasized, 'Donations can be made via our website, capespca.co.za.
