Specifically, he could believe that he needs to"spare" aspiring debutants - Dewald Brevis, 20, Matt Breetzke, 24, and Donovan Ferreira, 25 - from the suffocating the expectations he was subjected to back in February 2018, when, merely four months after making his Test debut, he was thrust into captaining an injury-decimated ODI team against India.
