Group Of Players To 'Come Out' As Gay Next Month
A group of professional footballers in a European country reportedly plan on coming out as gay next month as part of a campaign., a group of male players in Germany are planning to come out on 17 May, a week before the end of the current Bundesliga campaign.
The date is significant as 17 May is an International Day Against Homophobia, with all clubs involved believed to have been informed about the campaign. It is, however, noted that several of those players could still decide against coming out as they are hesitant about making their sexuality public. Ex-professional player Marcus Urban, who played in Germany, is the co-founder of global diversity group Diversero, and has discussed the players' plans."There is controversy there. Do I still want to wait until the world of football becomes the way I want it to be? Why should I wait? An interesting dynamic has come into play, you can see that people's minds are starting to move and are thinking about whether it really makes sense to continue to hide and deny themselves.
