The Atletico Madrid man has just come off an impressive season with the LaLiga giants, and during the campaign, after Hugo Lloris decided to call time on his international career, the 32-year-old was highly touted to be the player who would don the Les Bleus armband next, but he was ultimately snubbed, with manager Didier Deschamps awarding the role to Mbappe.

The decision to give it to the Paris Saint-Germain marksman was rumoured to have caused a rift in the France dressing room, with it even being reported that Griezmann was considering international retirement as a result. The Los Rojiblancos forward has now revealed that he was unhappy about not being appointed captain of the European giants at the time.

"It was hard to take, and tough. I'm 32 and, although I still have the legs, I know I'm reaching the end [of my career]," he told The ex-Barcelona striker also insisted, though, that he is now behind the 24-year-old as skipper.Check Out: What Now For PSG After Messi Departure? With the Macon native having been selected for France's latest set of 2024 UEFA European Championship qualifiers, Griezmann failed to score in the team’s 3-0 win over Gibraltar, while captain Mbappe did find the back of the net from the penalty spot.
