Grey College emerged victorious at the first-ever NextGenXV Global Schools Challenge, held in Bloemfontein. The hosts remained undefeated throughout the three-day competition, showcasing an explosive backline that secured 23 tries while conceding only two. Five Grey College players were recognized in the Team of the Festival, including standout left wing Siyabonga Kenny, who scored five tries. Grey High also impressed, securing victories against Denstone College and Strathallan School before falling to Hamilton Rugby Club in a thrilling final match. Utility back Meyer Prinsloo of Grey High earned a spot in the Team of the Festival.
Five Grey College players made the Team of the Festival as the hosts went unbeaten at the inaugural NextGenXV Global Schools Challenge held in Bloemfontein, writesThe Premier Schools competition was hosted by Grey College and included Grey High, Oakdale, Strathallan School , Denstone College and an U18 invitational team from Hamilton Rugby Club competing on three matchdays between 14-18 December.
Grey College won all three of their matches convincingly, an exciting backline doing most of the damage as the hosts scored 23 tries and conceded two. Electric left wing Siyabonga Kenny was the top scorer with five tries while centre O’Ryan Kleyn scored in all three games and was joined on three tries by No 8 AJ Booysen.
Kenny was joined in the Team of the Festival by four of his teammates, namely tighthead prop Marinus Oosthuizen, flanker Xander Smit, powerful outside centre Ethan Adams and fullback Lamla Mgedezi.Grey High beat Denstone College and Strathallan School in their opening two games before coming unstuck against a physical Hamilton u18 side from Cape Town, going down in a 19-17 thriller on the final day.
