Brits looking to fill their tanks with cheap petrol or diesel at the moment may struggle to find a good deal as prices at the pumps remain stubbornly high.
Last week, new figures showed that inflation held steady in September as the benefit of easing food inflation was offset by higher petrol and diesel prices. Fuel retailers have been told they will soon have to publish up-to-date petrol and diesel prices online for customers to see. A voluntary scheme is currently in place before new rules are brought in, and companies including Shell, BP, Esso and supermarket retailers Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Asda have all signed up. It means data for at least 4,000 forecourts in the UK is currently available.
