The Qing Ming Festival, which falls on Apr. 5 this year, has prompted families to begin cleaning the tombstones of their deceased loved ones ahead of time.
During the festival, Chinese families visit the tombs of their ancestors to clean the gravesites and make ritual offerings to their ancestors. However, one family in Malaysia took things to a drastic level when they accidentally reversed their car into a stranger’s tombstone. Fortunately, the tombstone did not sustain much damage in the accident and remained intact.Despite the incident on Mar. 26 at a cemetery in Perak, Malaysia, the family members of the deceased to whom the tombstone belonged chose not to take any further action against the driver who had crashed into it.
A video of the accident was posted on Facebook, revealing the severe damage sustained by the car’s back and bumper. In contrast, the tombstone remained largely unharmed and in good condition. Zhan Sheng Chong, the president of the Teluk Intan Hokkien Association, confirmed the incident at the cemetery and urged other tomb sweepers to be cautious during Qing Ming tomb sweeping rituals and to prioritize the safety of themselves and others.
