Plans for the 17m high glass family home were hit with several objections from neighbours
A historic water tower has been given the go-ahead to be transformed into a dream family home by planning chiefs, despite sparking complaints from neighbours.
An iron water tank was removed from it during the 1980s and new living accommodation will now be built in its void and above. Neil Dawson of Snook Architects in Aintree, Liverpool, had his planning application approved at the latest meeting of West Lancashire Council's development control committee. Several objections were submitted to West Lancashire Council. Among them, Brian Farrimond, of Tower Hill, penned: "We feel that the proposal still does not accord the respect the tower deserves. The structure on top of the tower is wholly out of keeping with the rest of the building."
Meanwhile, Helen Pugh, also of Tower Hill, wrote: "We support the conversion of the water tower to maintain this important, historic building. However we feel the proposed design is visually unsympathetic to this Victorian construction." Phil Tyrer, another resident from Tower Hill, voiced conditional support for the conversion but raised doubts about the glass extension's height and its potential invasion of privacy.
