According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, police spokesperson, it is alleged that at about 14:00, W/O Werner Maree of SAPS Mount Road and his colleague were patrolling in North End when they were flagged down by a person. The members rushed to the corners of Green and Adcock Streets where they found the woman covered in a blanket. She had already given birth but the umbilical cord was still attached and wound around the baby’s neck.

The child, who weighs 2,6kg’s, was safely taken to hospital by ambulance and is reported to be in a healthy condition.
