Google Labs introduces 'Whisk', an experimental AI tool that allows users to generate new images by blending multiple input images. This innovative approach departs from traditional text-based prompts, offering a unique way to create personalized visuals.

Instead of text-based prompts, it allows users to pick a handful of images in order to generate entirely new ones. Google Labs is on a mission to make AI-generated images fun in the midst of continued divisiveness over how models are trained and who owns the final product. The experimental division of the tech giant’s latest effort in fun is called Whisk . As the name would suggest, it tries to blend a series of user selected images as prompts in order to create a wholly new AI-generated one.

As such, it does not go the usual route of text-based prompts that many platforms currently employ. Whisk lets you input images for the subject, one for the scene and another image for the style. Then, you can remix them to create something uniquely your own, from a digital plushie to an enamel pin or sticker,” Google Labs explained. Before you go testing it out for yourself, it should be pointed out that this new experimental tool is only available for use in the United States at the time of writing, although a VPN could be a handy way to circumvent those restrictions (or so we’re told). Unpacking how the tool works, Google noted that its Gemini model automatically writes a detailed caption of the images you drag and drop into the platform. These descriptions are then fed into Google’s latest image generation model – Here the company pointed out that this process is designed to “captures your subject’s essence, not an exact replica.” This is said to make the remix capabilities of the tool more natural and unique, but there are some aspects to keep in mind when using it. “Since Whisk extracts only a few key characteristics from your image, it might generate images that differ from your expectations. For example, the generated subject might have a different height, weight, hairstyle or skin tone. We understand these features may be crucial for your project and Whisk may miss the mark, so we let you view and edit the underlying prompts at any time,” Google Labs advise
