Twenty-five wildfires now burning across northeast: MNRF There were 25 active wildland fires burning across northeastern Ontario as of Sunday morning, fire officials said. Of those, 19 were not yet under control. The update comes with a notice of heavy smoke across northeastern Ontario, that fire officials say is due to a large number of fires in eastern Ontario and Quebec.

Cycling teens, supporters raise $7K for Northeast Cancer Centre A June 3 charity bicycle ride organized by a Sudbury teen raised $7,383 for the Northern Cancer Foundation. Sixteen-year-old Lo-Ellen Secondary School student Kalyani Nair said she was inspired to do the ride — which she’s calling Pedaling for a Purpose — after her father, Dr. Satish Kumar, an oncologist at the Northeast Cancer Centre, took part in a similar charity ride in 2021.
