Local boxer Christopher Golding claimed a unanimous decision win over debutant Thuso Morakabi from the North West in their super lightweight bout on September 24.

The fight was scored 38-38, 38-38 and 39-37 in favour of the Western Ext resident by judges Mmoledi Molokwane, Cyphrial Ndaba and Thando Xamlashe.

That Morakabi accepted the challenge came as a welcome relief for the 24-year-old, who was itching to get inside the squared circle. “Dwayne’s withdrawal didn’t make me lose focus as I had trained hard and was ready to be in the ring. I was just happy that they found an opponent for me and the fight wasn’t cancelled,” Golding said.

“Thuso came out strong, but I was patient and kept my defence tight. He landed a mean couple of body shots, one of which brought me to my knees in the first round. I got up again and continued. He won the first round.
