LAS VEGAS — is coming off the summer of a lifetime. The goalie helped lead the to a championship, paraded the Stanley Cup down the Las Vegas Strip — then around Alberta — and signed a new $9.8 million contract, all while designing his dream home from the ground up. The extraordinary stretch changed Hill’s life, but you wouldn’t know it by being around him leading up to this season.
He has a quiet, composed demeanor fitting for the pressure-packed position. The tools to be an excellent NHL goalie are all there, but through the first five years of his professional career had yet to realize that potential. It was at least partially circumstance-driven. Prior to coming to Vegas, Hill cut his teeth in the NHL behind poor defenses. In his three seasons in Arizona, the never ranked better than 23rd in the league in high-danger chances allowed.
