Athletes that win gold are rewarded with R400 000 cash. A second place earns them R200 000 while a bronze finish picks up R75 000 from the Committee. In relay and team sports, South African athletes each get a bonus of R100 000, R75 000 and R50 000 for gold medals, silver and bronze respectively.Meanwhile, the South African Women’s Hockey Team has had to overcome major financial hurdles just to get to the Paris Olympics.
