Glory is about four friends who are part of the Rivulettes, an Ontario women’s hockey team that won over 95 per cent of their games
When: April 4 to 13 at Gateway TheatreTracey Power grew up a hockey fan. But, like most Canadians, the playwright had never heard of the Preston Rivulettes.
After that initial encounter, Power set about finding out what she could about the team. Most of what she could find was statistics — who scored what and when. “One of the inspirations in writing the play was being able to use dance to portray emotion and athleticism in sports,” she said. She had seen hockey represented in other ways, but dance let her “explore all the different areas of the sport. And to have that dynamic. When I go see a hockey game it’s so dynamic in its movement, so to be able to capture that in dance was exciting — and to give personality to each game. Every game is a little bit different in how it makes you feel.
