A transformative shift in how the planet is powered is underway, with the"phenomenal rise of clean energy technologies" playing a crucial role.
Demand for oil, coal and natural gas is set to peak before the end of this decade, with fossil fuels' share in the world's energy supply dropping to 73% by the year 2030 after being"stuck for decades at around 80%," the International Energy Agency said Tuesday. Among other things, heat pumps — as well as other electric heating systems — are on course to outsell boilers that use fossil fuels.
"As things stand, demand for fossil fuels is set to remain far too high to keep within reach the Paris Agreement goal of limiting the rise in average global temperatures to 1.5 °C," the statement went on to say.
