Glimpse of Lancashire's hidden past and untold stories in festival of history this weekend

Beautiful architecture, hidden gems and the untold stories of some of Lancashire's past are being unveiled as part of a festival of history this weekend.

Its incredible textile collection has been described as 'the finest collection of textiles outside the Victorian and Albert Museum' and spans five centuries, while its historic Victorian rooms, servants' quarters, stately rooms and kitchen can also be visited. A free vintage bus will run on Saturday between Padiham town centre and the hall, for anyone interested in taking a trip back in time on one of the original Burnley, Colne and Nelson Transport buses.

The event takes place this Saturday , between 1pm and 3pm at St Andrew's Church on Rossall Road, FY5 1DZ. No booking is required, and for more information, click here. Behind the Georgian Wall, The Storey Gardens, Lancaster LA1 1TH These stunning gardens feature a Georgian wall, a magnificent copper beech tree and a spectacular Tasting Garden with ancient fruit trees, gorgeous flower borders and apple trees growing up the wall. Visitors will get the chance to get close to the walls, which provided a microclimate for growing fruit, vegetables and fruit trees against the wall.

The church saw many hundreds of workhouse babies christened within its walls, and is a huge, untold part of Lancaster's history. Naomi Parsons, curator of Lancaster City Museums, will share her expertise about the Lancaster Workhouse and its links to Christ Church. Among is treasures are the third oldest carved oak misericords in England, a carved pulpit, three brass candelabra and stunning stained glass in the the east window. It's open for visiting today on Saturday, September 17 from 9am to 4pm, and will be a main stop on the Slavery Tour starting at the Maritime Museum, and Sunday, September 18, with services at 8am, 10am and 6.30pm.

Open Day @ SHOP, Syke Street, Preston The fascinating history of the small building which used to house Preston's iconic Charity Shop Rwanda will be on show at this open day taking place today . It now houses North West Design Collective Studio, an all female, conservation specialist team of architects, designers and creatives.

Bank Hall, Bretherton, PR26 9AT This Grade II Listed Jacobean mansion in Bretherton near Leyland is nestled in stunning park land. Built on the site of an older house in 1608, the grounds of the hall and its visitor centre will be open for people to explore.
